Hello, I’m M.

A little backyard.
A whole world.

When my daughter, my only child, left home, the quiet felt different. I missed her in the little spaces of the day. And when I didn’t quite know what to do with that sadness, I found myself in the garden.

I planted things. Put out food. Filled the water. Small acts of care that gave my days somewhere gentle to begin.

Then came the little visitors. A bird at the feeder. A squirrel pausing nearby. Familiar faces returning, until this patch of earth became a place they trusted.

Somewhere in the tending, something in me began to soften. I hadn’t gone outside looking for healing. But slowly, quietly, it found me there.

That’s how Backyard Sanctuary began. With a heart that missed someone, and a garden that kept making room.

Now I share these little moments with you. If you need a place to land, there is room here, too.

The familiar faces

Everyone has a seat.

Some stop by for a snack.
Some become part of the story.

01FredThe cardinal

Our faithful red regular, stopping by morning and evening. His visits have become one of the backyard’s little rituals.

02SkippyThe chipmunk

A familiar little face for years, with a special place in the sanctuary—and a keen interest in the peanuts.

03DouglasThe squirrel

Comfortably himself. A pause, a snack, and sometimes a look at the camera that feels a little like hello.

04The visitorsRoom for all

Doves, blue jays, sparrows, hummingbirds, and the overlooked ones. Nobody has to be someone’s favorite to belong here.

Spend some time on YouTube

The backyard reminds me to slow down and notice. My YouTube channel grew from that same feeling—the wish to keep a little of the outside close, even when we’re indoors.

Here, the moments stretch a little longer. Flowing water, rain, familiar sounds, and beautiful views create a place to linger while you read, rest, or move through your day. Alongside my own backyard recordings, you’ll find imagined spaces inspired by that connection to nature.

Music is part of that connection for me, too. Sometimes a melody helps me settle. Sometimes it gives a feeling somewhere to go. I love letting music move through me, without needing to put every feeling into words.

A Little Room to Feel is a new series taking shape around gentle jazz and blues, open spaces, and views of nature. Different places, different sounds, with the same invitation: find what moves you, and stay a while.

The heart of this backyard

“I don’t set the table
and decide who gets a seat.”

I put out food. I put out water.
And whoever is hungry comes.
